Bruxism
treatment β ββwhat does the procedure look like?
There is no single effective method of treating bruxism , and it often requires a visit to several specialists. In the initial phase, if the disease is diagnosed, psychotherapy and sedatives are used. However, this method has limited effectiveness. It is also worth visiting a dentist, who will assess any damage that has already occurred due to teeth grinding. Relief splints are often used, selected by a prosthetist, but this only works in some cases and in the initial phase of the disease. Modern medicine uses knowledge that concerns the action of botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox.
The aesthetic medicine doctor injects the masticatory muscles, causing a blockade of neuromuscular transmission. This blockade results in a decrease in muscle tension and a weakening of their activity, which reduces the intensity of tooth friction and the force of pressure itself

After
the procedure
The botulinum toxin procedure is safe, which means that it does not require a special recovery period. The patient returns to normal activity almost immediately. However, it is important to remember to refrain from physical activity and alcohol consumption for 24 hours after the procedure. It is also advisable not to heat the injected area or use a sauna or solarium for 2 weeks from the date of botulinum toxin injections.
There
may be a small local swelling that subsides after 2 hours. Very rarely, a
bruise appears after a Botox treatment, which heals within a few days. New
neuromuscular endings, which have been inhibited in development by the
botulinum toxin, form over a period of 4 to 12 months, which is why the effect
lasts for about 4-6 months in patients.
